Job Title: Superintendent of Schools

Compensation Range: $250,000 - $290,000
Summary:
The Superintendent serves as the chief executive and educational leader, executing the vision of the School Board and overseeing all district operations, including instruction, finance, operations, human resources, school support, technology, and compliance with state and federal regulations. They set strategic direction, drive student achievement, manage a multimillion-dollar operating budget, and represent the district in the broader community. The candidate must have the background, skills, and abilities essential for excellence in educational leadership.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Primary Duties / Responsibilities
*Serve as the chief advisor to the Board of Education by preparing strategic agendas, reports, and recommendations to guide governance and decision-making.
*Lead the development and execution of a comprehensive district-wide strategic plan focused on academic excellence and continuous improvement in student outcomes.
*Prepare, oversee, and manage the district’s annual budget to ensure financial stability, efficiency, and responsible allocation of resources.
*Ensure compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal laws, including Oklahoma State Board of Education and Oklahoma Statewide Charter School Board regulations.
*Represent the district as its public spokesperson and advocate in local, state, and national forums, strengthening relationships with community partners and the public.
*Foster a culture of accountability by delegating authority effectively and aligning operational efforts with strategic, student-focused goals.
*Provide leadership in the creation and implementation of internal controls, policies, and procedures that support district goals and ensure legal and regulatory compliance.
*Monitor district programs, operations, and budgets to ensure effectiveness, efficiency, and alignment with established objectives.
*Collaborate with internal and external partners to support program implementation, long-term planning, and the achievement of district priorities.
*Facilitate and lead meetings involving diverse issues, including personnel, finance, regulations, and interdepartmental coordination.
*Oversee and support district leadership teams, including Deputy Superintendents and Directors, to ensure high-quality service delivery and operational excellence.
*Present data and information on strategic priorities, community engagement, legislative developments, and district performance to varied audiences.
*Lead efforts to identify, address, and resolve complex issues impacting district operations and educational services.
*Promote professional growth and model strong, ethical leadership to inspire staff and support a positive, high-performing organizational culture.
Strategic Planning
*Collaborates with the Executive Team to define and articulate the organization’s vision and to develop strategies for achieving that vision.
*Oversees and evaluates strategies for ensuring the long-term success of the organization
*Assists with developing future leadership within the organization in line with a comprehensive succession plan
Management
*Promotes a culture that reflects the organization’s values, encourages performance excellence, and aligns reward systems with overall goals
*Leads the organization according to authorized policies and procedures that fully conform to current laws and regulations
*Supervise direct and indirect reports efficiently, in a way that builds camaraderie, team building, and a positive atmosphere
*Evaluates the organization’s and staff’s performance against internal metrics and benchmarks of success
Strategic Relationships
*Serves as the spokesperson and representative for the organization
*Assures that the organization and its mission, programs, and services are consistently presented in a strong, positive image to relevant stakeholders
*Actively advocates for the organization, its beliefs, and its business efforts
Business Acumen
*Evaluates the design, delivery, and quality of programs and services
*Collects and analyzes evaluation information that measures the success of the organization’s efforts; refines or changes programs in response to that information
Leadership
*Serves as the leader within the organization at the highest level
*Collaborates with the Board and Executive Team in the development of policies and planning recommendations
*Represents the school in a professional manner at all times, when working with stakeholders, in dealings with outside entities, and situations with fellow employees
Supervisory Responsibilities:
*Supervises the Executive Leadership team directly
*8-10 direct reports; all other employees indirectly
Education and/or Experience:
*Master’s degree in Educational Leadership, Administration, or related field required.
*Superintendent Certification in Oklahoma or another state (or eligibility for Oklahoma superintendent certification under 70 O.S. § 6-189).
*At least five (5) years of progressively responsible PreK- 12 school or district leadership experience.
*Management/supervisory experience required.
*Virtual school leadership preferred.
*Previous teaching experience preferred.

*Skilled in managing confidential information with discretion and maintaining the highest standards of professional integrity.
*Ability to analyze complex challenges, develop strategic solutions, and implement decisions that support district goals.
Language Skills:
The Superintendent must possess strong language and communication skills, including the ability to read, interpret, and synthesize complex information such as educational research, financial reports, legal documents, and policy directives. They must be adept at responding clearly and diplomatically to inquiries, concerns, and complaints from families, staff, community members, and regulatory agencies. The role requires proficiency in crafting high-quality written materials—including public communications, policy statements, speeches, and publications—that align with the district’s standards and messaging. Additionally, the Superintendent must be able to deliver compelling and professional presentations to the Board of Education, senior leadership, public groups, and community stakeholders, effectively conveying complex ideas with clarity and confidence.
Mathematical Skills :
Ability to demonstrate strong analytical and quantitative skills, including the ability to interpret and apply mathematical concepts such as statistical analysis, probability, ratios, percentages, and financial projections. This includes the capacity to use data to inform decision-making, evaluate program effectiveness, develop and manage complex budgets, and apply financial models to real-world educational and operational scenarios.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Google applications, Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. Must have a high aptitude to learn new software as necessary for the business operations of the school.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
*Superintendent Certification issued by Oklahoma or another U.S. state preferred.
*If the candidate does not hold a Superintendent Certification, they must be eligible to obtain a Superintendent Certification under Oklahoma law.
Other Qualifications :
*Must be able to pass a state-mandated background check after a conditional offer of employment is made.
*Must have favorable employment references.
*Must periodically attend meetings and events in different locations around the state, requiring either driving or providing for another reliable means of self-transport.

This position will be substantially in-person in Oklahoma City and remote as needed. This position requires attendance at meetings in various public locations across the state of Oklahoma. This requires driving in a vehicle in various conditions and times of the day. The noise level is usually quiet to moderately loud (when students are present).
